EBL launches Bangla QR Payment

EBL has launched Bangla QR Payment in its banking app EBL SKYBANKING on Wednesday, September 2, 2020. EBL is the first bank in Bangladesh to join VISA in this project.

With the introduction of new service, EBL customers can now make zero contact payments at various merchant points, such as, hotels, restaurants, groceries, pharmacies, etc. using their EBL Visa cards through EBL SKYBANKING app. In the wake of the current coronavirus pandemic, this Bangla QR Payment solution will ensure EBL customers make contactless payments across various merchant points.

Ali Reza Iftekhar, Managing Director & CEO of EBL, said, “Being a leading financial institution of the country, it is also our responsibility to take care of our customers and innovate ways to maintain health protocol prescribed by government to Bangladesh and WHO and join the fight against COVID-19. Introduction of the zero contact payment system is the need of this hour. He also added that the “QR Payment will play a key role in ensuring contactless payments and secure transactions at a time when customers banking habit is changing. This method of payment will also attract one of our youth.”

This service is a joint initiative of Visa, EBL, and SSLCOMMERZ. Other banks will also be involved in the scheme and customers of these banks will be able to make payments by scanning the QR codes at various merchant points using their respective banks’ mobile apps and Visa cards
